Balcony Leap

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

While attending the University of Idaho, a group of boys appropriately got drunk on a weekend. They were lounging and laughing on a third floor balcony over a bush. One young man was feeling particularly manly and proclaimed that he could jump off of the balcony and survive. His friends were a little worried about this and made mild discouraging comments, which were ignored. The jumper was convinced that the bushes below the balcony would break his fall and he would be a hero. Despite protests, he leapt, and he survived. Another friend arrived at the party and when told of the heroic abilities of the jumper, said that he didn't believe him. The jumper was sure that he could perform a repeat, and he gave it his best. Unfortunately, he hit the bush at a new angle and he was impaled by a branch. He landed so that the branch went straight up his crotch, damaging testicles and intestine irreperably. He did live to tell the tale, but reproduction is not an option and although he looks fully capable from the outside, he still needs assistance going to the bathroom thirty years after his flight.

My father, who is now deceased, reported this to me and refused to say which friend of his jumped for fear of ridicule. References other than first hand will I'm sure be difficult to find, and even those will be reluctant. I have no doubt however as to its truthfulness.
