Sledding on the Interstate

2010 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Wendy/Darwin says, "Accepted into the Archive. (at-risk survivor)"

ORIGINAL SUBMISSION:

The Burlington (Vermont) Free Press reported a man with a suspended driver's license was pulling a person in a sled behind his vehicle along Interstate 89 in Williston, Vermont, at about 1 a.m. Sunday according to the Williston police. Officer Keith Gonyea said that when he located the vehicle he found its driver, Caleb Kelley, 23, of Williston preparing to trade places with the person in the sled. Kelley, who had his license suspended for driving under the influence, received a citation to appear in court to answer the charge of driving with a suspended license. Apparently, it is not clear as yet whether it is unlawful in Vermont to pull a sled down the interstate, but it certainly upholds Vermont's tradition of fielding strong candidates for the Darwin Award.

Pulling a sled along a road is one thing, but on an Interstate? Folks from Vermont are pushing the envelope here! I think this is unique enough for an HM! Thanks, David!

We get lots of stories very similar to this just about every winter but I don't recall ever seeing one as downright stupid as this. An interstate?!?!?!
