My older brother had developed a fascination with the collection of surplus bullets my dad had locked up in the garage. He'd been taking the bullets of the shells, though I can't remember why.

Unable to remove the head off of a .22 round, he decided to bury the bullet and fire it into the ground. Knowing what might happen, he of course, didn't want to do it himself, so he called me.

Handing me a side-cutter and a nine-inch nail, he instructed me to place the tip of the nail against the primer and strike the nail head with the side-cutter - and then ran behind a bush. Very curious, I started tapping the nail.

After instructing me to strike the nail HARD, he ran behind a bush for a second time leaving me, the bullet and the tools alone.

To this day I don't remember what went on for the rest of that afternoon, but I do remember sitting at the dining room table with my dad using surgical scissors and a pair of tweasers to remove shrapnel and gunpowder from my left middle finger.

Ahh, siblings. My brother and I had our fair share of back and forth as we were growing up, but he (being the older one) never tried to talk me into doing something as stupid as this. Consider yourself lucky that you ended up with just some shrapnel in your finger. Thanks for sharing the story, Logan!
