Dancing in the roof with energy

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Teenager suffers electric shock on train A 16-year-old boy was yesterday hospitalized with burns in 90 percent of his body after suffering an electric shock. He was playing on the roof of a train standing still in the district of Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires province. The teen’s aunt said the boy and a friend had bet 50 pesos that he could dance on the roof without touching the train’s overhead contact line. Eduardo Montenegro, public relations agent at the Rail Emergency Service (UGOFE), said the catenary used for trains’ propulsion “generates thousands of volts and can hurt a person standing one metre away.”

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
While "train surfing" accidents are fairly common I'm inclined to vote for this one since he wasn't actually "surfing" but simply accepting a dare to dance near the high voltage line. Thanks, Javier!

I agree with Bruce. Surfing is one thing, dancing on a dare while trying not to touch a multi-1000 volt cable is something else entirely!
