Inner tube blues

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

So this story isn't first person exactly, but bear with me. My cousin told this story at a family reunion.

It seems that one of her coworkers was at a party. It wasn't an ordinary pool party either. Oh no, it was a pool party. It was a pool party which included drinking. This particular coworker had consumed the exact amount of alcohol which makes decision making skills foggy or in his case, nonexistent. Our dear coworker decided to impress some of the ladies at the party and dove into the pool through an inner tube. He forgot that the pool was three feet deep and that, in order to go through the inner tube, he had to dive straight down. He may not have won a Darwin Award, but he certainly should receive an honorable mention. A cracked skull and a head full of staples later, he was back to work, sober and wiser.

Since this is just a PA I'll vote to accept it. He certainly should have known better. Thanks!

This one brought back memories for me. On Christmas Day, 1968, we were at a pool in a faraway country. My friend did the same thing (but no inner tube), cracked his head on the bottom of the pool and left this world. I was about 8 years old at the time. Sad, but these things do happen

I like it. Maybe the next time he shows off will be while he's mountain climbing. :-P Must be an interesting scar! Thanks!
