One dead, two missing after heavy rainstorms

One person was reported dead and two were reported missing after heavy rainstorms recently caused havoc across Spain. A 40-year-old kite-surfer on the holiday island of Ibiza was caught by a squall and thrown against the facade of a hotel some 50 metres off the beach.

The Spanish victim suffered fatal injuries. According to the authorities, the man had gone into the water defying a bathing ban. Only a week ago a thunderstorm had already caused damage worth millions on neighbouring island Mallorca. Heavy rainstorms caused flooding in Valencia and the area around Alicante by the eastern Spanish Costa Blanca, where two people were reportedly missing after being caught in the floods.

The storms also hit holiday destinations such as Javea, Calpe, Altea and Denia, the authorities said. Certain areas in the region saw rainfalls of up to 210 litres per square metre. Cars were floating in the floods and flats were under water, while the flooding also caused landslides, but nobody was injured, according to the authorities.

A number of houses in Denia were evacuated because a river had burst its banks, and several streets had to be cordoned off for traffic. Several ferry connections to the Balearic Islands were cancelled.

Some garbanzo brain ignores obvious storm conditions AND a government warning!?! Could use a better write up, tho.

This could most certainly use a much better writeup, and without more details for a reference we can really only give this a PA. If you can dig up any actual news articles on this please let us know and we can give this a full DA.
