Guns are not effective bee killers

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Bees can be quite annoying, but, as this perfect nominee for an Honorable Mention can prove, using a .22 caliber loaded with buckshot is not an effective means of encouraging the bees to leave you alone...

David Walls, a 57-year-old man, was enjoying a Sunday afternoon with some alcoholic beverages when bees wanted to join in the fun. David must not have liked this idea since he loaded his .22 caliber with buckshot as a means of encouraging the bees to find a new place to buzz. While shooting at the bees (which were ABOVE him!) he managed to miss and hit his left hand. A trip to the hospital and some soft tissue damage later, we can only hope that David has learned a lesson! If not, I can imagine we will be hearing from him again soon enough!

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
How many bees do you think you can bring down with a .22 cal load of buckshot anyway? Not very many! Good thing they were not buzzing around his head! Thanks for the funny story, Jessica

Where WAS his left hand during this little episode? I agree that buckshot is NOT the best way to scatter bees. I'm surprised he didn't suffer multiple stings on top of his hand injury! Thanks, Jessica!
