Darwin in heavy traffic

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Darwin says, "Dumb to argue, and amusing nine-point description of the incident. But all in all it's just another drunken argument so, let's just leave this fine nomination in the slush pile for readers to enjoy."

"Two people were killed Thursday evening when they left a cab on Highway One near Chilliwack after having a fight and walked into oncoming traffic, RCMP said Friday.

The male, 32, of Burnaby, and the female, 42, of Surrey, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The freeway was closed for several hours Thursday evening while police investigated.

"It is believed that the male and female deceased were travelling in a cab en route to Surrey," said RCMP Cst. Lea-Ann Dunlop in a press release.

"While in the taxi a physical altercation between the male and female began, and the female requested the taxi pull over to allow her to exit the taxi on the shoulder of Highway #1 at the Lickman Road overpass in Chilliwack. The taxi complied with the female's request and pulled over. The female and male exited the taxi.

"The female proceeded to walk eastbound on Highway #1 and into the path of westbound traffic and was struck and subsequently killed by westbound traffic. Moments later the male was also struck and subsequently killed by westbound traffic. Several vehicles were involved and were unable to avoid the male and female as they were difficult to see.

"Initial investigation indicates that both the male and female may have been under the influence of alcohol. Both were wearing dark clothing and would have been difficult to see at the time the incident occurred," she said."
