HUNTER NEARLY DROWNS

HUNTING DUCKS WHILE IN A KAYAK, VICTIM ROLLS INTO THE WATER, SUFFERS FROM HYPOTHERMIA

By JUSTIN McANENY , Staff Writer

UPPER UWCHLAN — A man duck hunting on Marsh Creek lake spilled into the water late Saturday morning after his kayak rolled when he fired his shotgun.

Nathan Miller, 28, of Drexel Hill, was pulled out of the water after about 20 minutes and was being treated for hypothermia at Chester County Hospital, officials said.

Park Ranger David Breyan said the water temperature was in the low 40s.

Breyan said Miller was pulled from the water by John Kousisis and Lisa Fulton, both of Coatesville, who were fishing on the lake.

Miller was not wearing a personal flotation device or whistle, which are required at the lake, said Robert Bonney, a waterways conversation officer with the state fish and boat commission.

Miller had placed decoys in the lake across from the park rangers’ office at 675 Park Road when he fired a shot and fell into the water

I have a feeling we'll be hearing about this guy at some point in the future seeing as he only garners an HM in this attempt. Firing a shotgun from a platform as unstable as a kayak is bad enough, but neglecting to have even the most basic (required) safety equipment is icing on the cake. Thanks, Charlie!

I was a bit reluctant to consider this at first, but I realized that the visual was just TOO cartoony to resist! Score: Daffy Duck 1, Elmer Fudd 0!!!
