The Least Compitent Criminal

2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

The robber of a Bank of America branch in Tampa, Fla., in August is actually still at large, but according to witnesses, the bag of cash he took and stuffed down his pants as he fled had exploded, from the chemical dye pack inside, creating a temperature of about 425 degrees. Said a police spokesperson, "There's no way that he was not injured." (In his spirited post-ignition dash, the man jettisoned almost all the money.)

Definitely Keep: For Darwin's Eyes
Apparently the man was arrested and hospitalized after this incident. This is a repeat, but I'll pass it along because I think the information about the dye pack's blast temperature and the scattered money during the thief's initial flight are new.

The other story refers to the Centura Bank and was recent. This sory refers to an August robbery of the Bank of America. While I don't know banks in America, I suspect these are two different robberies. However, Darwin can have a look.

With this new infgormation comes a cartoony visual even I cannot resist (I voted to zap this story before as just another dumb crook story). A dumb crook with his crotch on fire is an entirely different matter! :-)
