January 15, 2005 By DAMIAN GILETTO The News Journal A 33-year-old Newark man was seriously injured when he was hit by a train early Friday. The victim was struck about 2:30 a.m. as he tried to cross the railroad tracks behind the Deer Park Tavern, said Kelli Starr-Leach, New Castle County Paramedics spokeswoman. The man, whose name was not released, suffered fractures to his left arm and a fractured left shoulder. This is the second time the victim has been struck by a train behind the tavern.

I like this one because he's trying again, even if we routinely reject train stories.

It is the two-fer nature of the story that makes it eligible for inclusion. Otherwise, his story would be lost among the multitudes...

It sounds like the train tracks behind the tavern need a fence to prevent drunk patrons from crossing them in the middle of the night. It doesn't sound like he did anything other than get drunk and be unobservant.

As I started reading, it was "Yeah, yeah, another death by train" story! But the line "This is the second time the victim has been struck by a train behind the tavern" made me giggle out loud! So it gest a vote from me!

Heed the story of the farmer who avoided bee stings by sealing his head in a plastic bag! Cringe at the man crushed by a branch he'd just severed... directly over his head!
