Ellensburg man killed in inner tube accident

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - An 18-year-old Ellensburg man was killed and his brother was injured Thursday night in an accident while they were riding an inner tube towed behind an SUV.

The Washington State Patrol said Michael Ross died at the scene.

He and his brother, 20-year-old Daniel Ross, were riding an inner tube behind an SUV in the Mattoon Lake Recreational Area.

19-year-old Dane Woodcock of Ellensburg was driving.

As the vehicle went around the corner, the Ross brothers fell off the tube and hit a concrete barrier. Michael Ross stopped breathing and his brother tried to revive him but he died.

The injured brother was treated and released from Kittitas Valley Community Hospital.

The state patrol says the law prohibits drivers from towing passengers behind vehicles on public roadways or property. The patrol says it's a very dangerous activity.
