Car won't start!

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Fifty-three year old mechanic at a local service station could not get his car started. He proceeded to crawl under the car to create a short between the selenoid and starter. Good idea, except that he left the car in gear. The car luched forward and rolled over one clever mechanic who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just heard this on the radio and if it's good enough to include, will research more detail (full name of the deceased...)

Maybe Toss: Too Common
We've had so many submissions involving people being run over by their cars that I'd have to have a lot more information.

The stupidity is high, the veracity questionable (AM radio!) Most solenoids are on top of the engine, so why was he underneath?

I know I would have had to get under my old Datsun to jump the solenoid, so I'll give that the benefit of the doubt. But there really isn't enough here to go on. Can we get a follow-uo story? This one does sound promising.

We've had quite a few similar stories- The only reason to look at this one twice might be if he was, indeed, a professional mechanic.
