A man was in a critical condition after falling from a railing while dancing at the Robbie Williams concert in Melbourne last night.

The 23-year-old was believed to have been standing on a railing on the second level of Telstra Dome when he slipped, falling several metres and landing on the crowd below, a police spokeswoman said today.

The Box Hill man was treated by St John first aid volunteers before being taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with head injuries.

"He has landed on a female fan, who was not physically injured but was treated for shock," the police spokeswoman said.

A hospital spokeswoman said the man remained in a critical condition.

A spokeswoman for Telstra Dome said it was believed the man had toppled over as soon as he tried to stand on the railing about 20 minutes into Robbie Williams' first set.

"Eye witnesses said he wasn't even fully erect when he fell," spokeswoman Susan Wood said. St John volunteers and security staff were at the scene almost immediately, she said.

s Wood said there was extra security staff last night to cope with the record concert crowd of 58,163.

Robbie Williams' management had been notified but it is not yet known if the performer was aware of the incident.

s Wood said the accident was the first of its type at the stadium and would be fully investigated.

You gotta wonder if the guy suddenly realised he'd spent $120 (Australian $ + about buggerall US$)to see bloody robbie williams and decxided to end it all. worse still, maybe he was trying to perpetuate his worthless line by jumping the bones of the shaken but not stirred "female fan" in which case (i)it serves him right if he goes no to darwin awards glory (even if he lives its worth a hin mention) and (ii) its good to hear that he "wasn't fully erect" so he darwined at the right time

I, too, am glad he wasn't fully erect, but I wonder if Robbie Williams fans qualify as "human"?
