Three Robbers, No Aim

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

People cheer when they hear that a homeowner successfully defended himself against a burglar. But what if you don't have a gun? No knife handy? That chair's too heavy? No problem! At least if your house is burgled by these three crooks.

When Kevin L. House, Patrick L. Dawkins and Kenneth L. Powell decided to break into a house, they failed to realize that their collective IQs did not add up to double digits. After sneaking in through an open garage door (one wonders if they have enough abilities to REALLY break in somewhere), they opened fire and ended up shooting one of the men in the home twice in the arm. However, not having accounted for the fact that a bullet travels in a generally straight line, especially after the gun's trigger is pulled, each of the burglars also ended up getting shot. One in the hand and foot, one in the calf and one in the buttocks.

They fled from the scene to a relative's house. The relative (hopefully having inherited more brains) called police. When the police questioned the burglars, they were told the shooting had happened at a nearby corner. Of course, the police couldn't find any proof (that leaky red stuff, otherwise known as blood) at the supposed scene.

The mystery was solved when personal effects of one of the men was found in the garage of the burgled home. The burglars were treated at the hospital before being released to police and charged with home invasion, their bond set at $250,000 each.

While it is too bad that the gunshots were in the wrong places to remove the men from the gene pool (and it is unknown if any of the men have procreated), and thus they are unable to win a Darwin Award, they deserve at least an honorable mention for their worthy efforts to improve the human race.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
LOL! Excellent writeup! One hopes they will not be able to find mates when they get out of jail.

as long as the homeowner is OK

It was probably dark and the criminals may have shot at each other, thinking that the other person shooting was the home-owner.
