Leap of Faith

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

An 18 year old Simcoe Ontario man learned a permanent lesson of the effects of alcohol and gravity. It seems our local youth have a unique spin on the traditional long jump contest. Th ename of the game is to callenge each other to feats of greatness? by jumping from the roof of one downtown building to the other. Not a sport for the faint of heart as the buildings are mostly shops underneath with two or three story apartments above. This particular fellow and his friends had been drinking when the thought struck them to go roof hopping. After a few attempts the local OPP appeared on the scene and warned the youths of the obvious risks, however as no actual law was being broken, they left them with a stiff warning. Apparently this fellow thought further intoxication nulified the warning and commenced to jump. His first jump sadly was short and he fell three stories backwards landing on his head. He died at the scene. Since there is no true law for stupidity the local police could not arrest him earlier as he was cognitive and not considered intoxicated to the point of being drunk and disorderly. It would seem his legal rights saved him from missing out on his Darwin Award.

I like this one, although it is something we've seen before.

I think this one comes from too much watching The Matrix, rather than watching Jackass. We've seen a couple like this, so it is probably not excellent enough to warrant an award, but it is worth considering anyway.
