Driving blind

2003 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

A friend of mine was driving along a unlit road in Gillingham, Dorset, England on his motorbike having just left the pub after his friends. He thought he would try to suprise them and catch them up. So he turned of his headlight(bearing in mind it was dark and there was no street lights), and openned the throttle. To compound his mistake his helmet visor was not only scratched and badly maintained but it was also blacked out. Therefore he didn't see the parked van on the side of the road and ploughed straight into it.He only just survived having broken both his legs in several places, his left arm in several places and crushed his chest.Unfortuneately he didn't remove his dna from the gene pool and has since procreated so perhaps his sons might do the job for us.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
I don't think turning off (not of) your headlight and crashing into a parked vehicle is that common, so I vote to let this one through as an HM candidate

You'd think he'd notice that he can't see - I guess he did notice, the hard way.

Bottom line: he didn't die nor was his ability to reproduce impaired.
